Terms of Use

Last updated: September 27, 2026

This is a translation of the Japanese original. In case of any discrepancy, the Japanese version shall prevail.

These Terms of Use (these "Terms") set forth the conditions for using the "Shiori" app (the "App") and related services (collectively with the App, the "Service") provided by CataLabs (the "Operator"). All users of the Service ("Users") must agree to these Terms before using the Service.

Article 1 (Scope)

  1. These Terms apply to all relationships between Users and the Operator relating to the use of the Service.
  2. The handling of personal information in the Service is governed by the separately established Privacy Policy.
  3. Users shall be deemed to have agreed to these Terms and the Privacy Policy by checking the consent checkbox for these Terms and the Privacy Policy that is displayed when they start using the App. Depending on the User's region, this is displayed either as a single checkbox that also covers consent to the "How we use your data" explanation, or as a required checkbox shown separately from an optional consent checkbox.

Article 2 (Accounts)

  1. The Service can be used without registering an account. In that case, data is stored mainly on the User's device.
  2. By signing in with an email address, a Google account, or an Apple account, Users can use the data backup and transfer features and the sharing features.
  3. Users are responsible for managing their sign-in credentials (such as passwords). The Operator is not liable for any damage incurred by Users due to inadequate management of such credentials or unauthorized use by third parties, except where caused by the Operator's willful misconduct or gross negligence.

Article 3 (Handling of Content)

  1. Rights to the booklets, photos, text, and other materials created by Users on the Service ("User Content") belong to the Users.
  2. The Operator may store, reproduce, and transmit User Content to the extent necessary to provide, maintain, and improve the Service (for example, for the share link feature and the backup feature).
  3. To reduce storage and data usage, uploaded photos and other images are resized and compressed to the maximum size set by the App before being saved. The maximum size and the number of images that can be saved per booklet vary depending on whether the User subscribes to Premium, as shown in the App.
  4. Users who issue a share link should use this feature with the understanding that any third party who knows the link can view (and, depending on the settings, edit) the User Content.

Article 4 (Sharing and Co-Editing)

  1. The person who issued a share link (the "Creator") may stop sharing and may delete the shared booklet. If the Creator stops sharing or deletes the booklet, participants may no longer be able to view or edit it.
  2. Participants may, at any time and by their own action, stop participating in (leave) a shared booklet (trip plan).
  3. There is a limit on the number of people who can participate in a single shared booklet. The limit is as shown in the App.
  4. For shared booklets whose Creator is a Premium member, some Premium benefits (such as higher photo storage quality and a larger number of saved photos) may also apply to participants. The scope of application is as shown in the App.

Article 5 (Prohibited Conduct)

When using the Service, Users must not engage in any of the following:

  1. Conduct that violates laws or regulations, or public order and morals
  2. Conduct that infringes the copyrights, portrait rights, privacy, or other rights of third parties
  3. Impersonating a third party, or misusing the sharing features to harm others
  4. Placing an excessive load on the Service's servers or network, or gaining unauthorized access
  5. Interfering with the operation of the Service
  6. Any other conduct similar to any of the foregoing

Article 6 (Paid Plan)

  1. Some features of the Service (such as real-time co-editing with others, high-quality photo storage, and a larger number of saved photos) are available with the paid plan ("Premium"). The details of the benefits are as shown in the App or on the app store.
  2. Prices, payment methods, and billing periods are displayed in the App or on the app store before purchase. Payments are processed through the App Store (Apple Inc.) or Google Play (Google LLC).
  3. In accordance with the rules of each store, subscriptions renew automatically unless canceled before the end of the current period.
  4. To cancel, please use the subscription settings of the App Store or Google Play. Deleting the App alone does not cancel a subscription.
  5. Cancellations of purchases and refunds are subject to the terms and procedures of the App Store or Google Play. Because the Operator does not handle payments directly, please direct refund requests to the respective store. However, this does not limit any rights granted under the laws of the country or region where the User resides.
  6. Even after a User changes or cancels their plan, User Content uploaded before the change (at the image quality and in the number already saved) will be retained as is. However, the limits of the new plan will apply to any new uploads.

Article 7 (Changes to and Suspension of the Service)

  1. The Operator may change the content of the Service or discontinue the provision of the Service. If this will have a significant impact on Users, the Operator will give notice in the App or on the Service's website, in advance whenever possible.
  2. The Operator may temporarily suspend the provision of all or part of the Service without prior notice in the event of system maintenance, failures, natural disasters, or other unavoidable circumstances.
  3. The Operator is not liable for any damage incurred by Users as a result of the preceding paragraphs, except where caused by the Operator's willful misconduct or gross negligence.

Article 8 (Disclaimer and Limitation of Liability)

  1. The Operator does not warrant that the Service will always operate properly, that it has no defects, or that it is fit for any particular purpose. The Operator will make reasonable efforts to fix defects and similar issues.
  2. The Operator is not liable for any loss of data due to device failure or loss, failure to make backups, or similar causes, except where caused by the Operator's willful misconduct or gross negligence. To protect important data, please sign in and use the backup feature.
  3. The Operator is not liable for any damage incurred by Users arising from the Service, except where caused by the Operator's willful misconduct or gross negligence.
  4. Notwithstanding the preceding paragraphs or any other provision of these Terms, if the Operator is liable to a User for damages under applicable law and the Operator has not acted with willful misconduct or gross negligence, the Operator's liability shall be limited to ordinary and direct damages actually incurred by the User, and shall not exceed the greater of (a) the amount paid by the User for the Service during the 12 months preceding the date on which the event giving rise to the damages occurred, and (b) 10,000 yen.

Article 9 (Changes to These Terms)

  1. The Operator may change these Terms if the change conforms to the general interests of Users, or if the change does not contravene the purpose of these Terms and is reasonable in light of the necessity of the change, the appropriateness of the revised content, and other circumstances.
  2. When changing these Terms, the Operator will announce the revised content and its effective date in the App or on the Service's website at least 7 days before the effective date (or at least 30 days before the effective date, for changes that are disadvantageous to Users).
  3. Users who use the Service on or after the effective date are deemed to have agreed to the revised Terms. Users who do not agree to a change should stop using the Service before the effective date (Users of the paid plan should cancel in accordance with Article 6). For changes that require Users' consent under applicable law, the Operator will obtain consent by the prescribed method.

Article 10 (Relationship with Consumer Protection Laws)

  1. If any provision of these Terms conflicts with mandatory consumer protection laws applicable in the country or region where the User resides (including the Consumer Contract Act of Japan, the Act on the Regulation of Terms and Conditions of Korea, and the consumer protection laws of EU member states), that provision shall not apply to the extent of the conflict, and the provisions of such laws shall prevail.
  2. Even if any provision of these Terms is held invalid or unenforceable, the remaining provisions shall continue in full force and effect.

Article 11 (Governing Law and Jurisdiction)

  1. These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of Japan; provided, however, that this does not deprive Users of the protection afforded to them by the mandatory laws of the country or region where they reside.
  2. Any dispute arising in connection with the Service shall be subject to the exclusive agreed jurisdiction of the court having jurisdiction over the Operator's location; provided, however, that this shall not apply where a User who is a consumer may, under the mandatory laws of the country or region where the User resides, bring or defend an action in the court of the User's place of residence.
